Discovering secret historic trails in Romagna

Most of Ravenna's historic buildings have been included in the Unesco's list of World Heritage Sites

Romagna is a perfect place to visit for those who love the great art of the past. Famous all over the world are the Byzantine mosaics of the churches of Sant'Apollinare in Classe and San Vitale, in Ravenna.

These two buildings, together with another six monuments in the city (the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Neonian Baptistery, the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, the Arian Baptistery, the Archiepiscopal Chapel, and the Mausoleum of Theodoric), have been included in the Unesco's list of World Heritage Sites. Ravenna is also famous for the tomb of the great poet Dante Alighieri.

Ravenna has accumulated this rich artistic heritage as it used to be the seat of the Roman Empire in the 5th century and then of Byzantine Italy until the 8th century.
