Amedeo Modigliani painting sold for $170.4m

The Chinese billionaire Liu Yiqian got it during an auction at Christie's

Not many artists are able to sell their works for more than more than $100m. Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch, Andy Warhol and Alberto Giacometti have done it before and now, thanks to a Chinese tycoon that literally fell in love with a Amedeo Modigliani's piece of art during an auction at Christie's in New York on Moday, the famous Italian artist join the prestigious club as well.

The bidding for Nu couche (Reclining Nude), painted between 1917 and 1918, started at US$75 and attracted since the very beginning seven hopeful collector. At the end, the painting was sold for $170.4m to the Chinese billionaire Liu Yiqian, who is already famous for being one of China's biggest art lovers.
