What is worth knowing: bright and dark sides at hand
Venice is one of the most popular Italian destinations. The atmosphere, the magic environment, the history behind any building and the delicious food make the city very attractive.
Nonetheless, if you really want to enjoy your trip in Venice there are some tips one should not neglect. According to a recent report published by the Hong Kong daily South China Morning Post, one should start the visit of the downtown when it is not very crowded and avoid having lunch in the main streets. Instead, smart tourists should go to the backstreets exploring all the traditional gourmet places.
There are many other cities claiming to be "Venice of that area", in Asia and in Europe as well, but tourists should not trust them and opt for the original one! In fact, La Serenessima has a lot to offer. Its position is very confortable to be reached with low cost airlines and it is a good place to be based and then visit other popular destinations, such as Bologna and the Dolomites.
The things to see are uncountable, considering that Venice has more than 450 palaces and buildings of historical interest. Along with them, Rialto Bridge and St. Mark Square will surely take your breath away.
A ride on the gondola (the typical Venice boat) is a must, but it is better to do it early in the morning enjoying the quite city and seeing it awakening. You should keep your eyes open looking for Giorgia Boscolo, who became the first female gondola driver in 2010.
One can also get around in Venice by vaporetto or water bus taking you to the beautiful Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs.
Besides the numerous bright sides of Venice it is fair to mention some dark ones. Firstly, Venetians are known for not being very welcoming with tourists, but the problem is that they know how hypersensitive and fragile their city is so they want to protect it. Hungry seagulls are also considered a curse: they are everywhere trying to steal food. However, it is fair to say that none of the so-called "dark sides" of Venice can make a visit to this enchanting city less enchanting.
