ItaliaCamp: Social Innovation through Young Minds

The Association takes part to the ninth G-20 Australia summit and gives life to brilliant ideas

ItaliaCamp Association was founded in 2010 by a group of 20 under-35s who had the idea of encouraging some "open-mindedness" in hundreds of other youngsters and young adults. They were mostly students, researchers, entrepreneurs and graduates who set this initiative up in cooperation with the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

Its essential mission is to act as catalyst for change through the collection of the most innovative ideas, to address the crucial problems afflicting society and improve its structure. In particular, the association aims at starting up a democratic and sharing process of innovation by applying the BarCamp methodology. It is an American methodology - "unconference" - which allows participants to express their own idea regarding a common theme in 5 minutes, and then opens it up for discussion with those present. The result is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants.

A second goal is to identify new leadership and support their development so that they can join forces towards the country's improvement. Last but not least, ItaliaCamp wants to promote ideas that can make each citizen a key component of the fabric of society.

ItaliaCamp attended the ninth G-20 Australia summit, held in Brisbane on 15 and 16 November 2014. Its presence aimed at building a network in order to effectively meet the social innovation needs of our country. The delegation composed by Fabrizio Sammarco (ItaliaCamp founder and CEO di) and Francesco Pozzobon (impact investing manager) interacted with the other international operators, analysing new markets and the value of civic economy.

With regard to innovations, ItaliaCamp carried out several remarkable initiatives. Worth mentioning, the 2012 first Research Centre for Social Innovation in Italy (CeRiis), in collaboration with many significant bodies, i.e. Enel Green Power, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, Invitalia, Mercedes-Benz Italia, Poste Italiane, Rcs MediaGroup, Sisal, Terna, Unipol and Wind.
