Dal 3 luglio all’ 1 novembre 2015, il Guggenheim Museum di Bilbao ospita la mostra “Jean-Michel Basquiat: Now’s the Time”, una raccolta di circa 100 opere del noto writer e pittore statunitense, morto di AIDS nel 1988, a soli 28 anni.

Figura di spicco del “graffissimo”, Basquiat riuscì a portare, insieme a Keith Haring, questo movimento dalle strade metropolitane alle gallerie d’arte. Le opere in mostra, divise in otto sezioni, provengono da musei e collezioni private e raccontano diversi aspetti dell’ arte di Basquiat, profondamente influenzato dalle correnti artistiche e dalla cultura popolare degli anni Settanta e Ottanta.

Amico di Andy Warhol, che lo aiutò a sfondare nel mondo dell’arte come fenomeno mondiale emergente, l’ elemento che maggiormente contraddistingue l’ arte di Basquiat è soprattutto l’ originale utilizzo delle parole, inserite nei suoi dipinti come parte integrante, ma anche come sfondo, o cancellate. Parole usate per attrarre l’attenzione dello spettatore
