How Italy is emerging as Think Tank leader

ISPI, IAI, and Bruno Leoni Institute are the protagonist of this “research revolution”

The new Global GoTo Think Tank Index has just been released, and many Italian institutions improved their position in this prestigious ranking. ISPI (The Italian Institute for International Political Studies), in Milan, IAI (Institute of International Affairs), in Rome, and the Bruno Leoni Institute, in Turin, were proud to learn that they have been included in the Think Tank of the Year 2013 - Top Think Tank in the World  and Top Think Tanks in Western Europe lists. Further, six more institutes entered one of the rankings. They are "Fondazione Italianieuropei", Best Think Tank with political party affiliation; "Fondazione Mattei" and "ICCG", Top Environment Think Tank; "Cesi", Top Think Tanks with Annual Operating Budgets of Less Than $5 Million USD; and "Eupolis Lombardia", Best New Think Thank.

ISPI was also added to the following lists: Top Think Tanks with Annual Operating Budgets of Less Than $5 Million USD (1st); Best policy study produced and Think Tank to watch (4th); Best managed Think Tank (6th); Best Think Tank network (8th), Best new idea or paradigm developed by a Think Tank (12th); Best Conference (14th), and Best use of social network (27th). IAI, instead, was mentioned among Best Institutional Collaboration (9th); Top Foreign Policy and International Affairs (25th); Top defence and national security (26th), and Best Conference (50th).

The Global GoTo Think Tank Index is the result of an international survey of over 1,950 scholars, public and private donors, policy makers, and journalists who helped rank more than 6,500 think tanks using a set of 18 criteria developed by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania (TTCSP). This ranking marks indeed the seventh year of its continued efforts to acknowledge the important contributions and emerging global trends of think tanks worldwide, that is helping to improve the profile and performance of think tanks while highlighting the important work they do for governments and civil societies around the world.
