Italian lute craftmanship at "Mondomusica New York"

The event will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion and at the Altman Building in New York from March 15 to March 17, and it will be part of the agenda of the Year of the Italian Culture in the USA

ICE, the agency for promotion abroad and internationalization of  Italian enterprises, has organized the first edition of "Mondomusica New York," in order to support the uniqueness of the Italian lute craftsmanship.

The event will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion and at the Altman Building in New York from March 15 to March 17, and it will be part of the agenda of the Year of the Italian Culture in the USA.

Besides the exhibition of music instruments and concert performances, master classes and professional workshops are on the schedule, with the prestigious collaboration of American institutions and associations.

Several insiders in the field from 13 USA states and 17 other countries will attend.

The collaboration with ICE Agency, which started about ten years ago on the occasion of "Cremona mondomusica" event, has certainly contributed, through the promotion of visits for buyers, to attract foreign visitors to Cremona and to make the Italian lute craftsmanship be better known to the main international markets.

In 2010  there was the first attempt to broaden the reference target, addressing directly the final costumers, by inviting students and teachers of Ljubljana Conservatory to the "Cremona mondomusica" event.

With this initiative, ICE Agency, started a collaboration with some European conservatories in order to inform about fairs' schedule and make the high quality of Italian craftsmanship better known.

Music instruments market in the USA  was evaluated around $ 6,2 billion in 2012(according to ICE Agency on US Department of Commerce and US International Trade Commission data.) The market showed a  0,8 contraction between 2007 and 2012, while a 2,5 growth is expected over the next five years.

Though the Italian string instrument export is still limited on the USA market, it amounted to a 2 billion dollar value in the first 11 months of 2012, Italy recorded a 30,4% growth, the highest among supply countries,.

There are more than 1900 lute craftsmen in the world, 156 of them are in Cremona. USA is the main market for string instrument import, the country imported, in 2011, string instrument for a value amounting to $ 34 billion. That is why craftsmen from Lombardia decided to point to the Big Apple.
