In conversation with Shaun
Singer, songwriter, producer. And one of the hottest DJs from South Korea.
We are talking about Shaun, whose real name is Kim Yun-ho, is born in 1990. Despite all the media reporting he was born on Jeju Island... Shaun revealed in this interview he actually isn't. «I'm not from Jeju. There are so many rumors,» he laughed, «I'll tell you what rumors there are». The story goes back to when he and Connor Maynard worked on the hit song Way Back Home. «Even that title was a scam,» he revealed.
Shaun debuted in 2010 as the keyboardist and backup singer of the indie rock band The Koxx. His fame rose in 2018 when his solo song, "Way Back Home," unexpectedly topped the South Korean music charts. Talking about that time, he reflected on how 2018, despite being an «uneventful year,» he «learned a lot. I think my perspective on the world has shifted a lot since then».
"Way Back Home" was a hit but came with a lot of drama: topping the charts unexpectedly drew accusations that Shaun and his management had manipulated the rankings. Accuses were denied both by Shaun and his management, who found him innocent after a lengthy investigation held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. «Personally, I am very grateful» to "Way Back Home," he revealed during our long chat, but the song brought «A lot of misfortune and a lot of good news. I think it's such a magical song. I do think it's a well-made song but I don't like it that much because I suffered so much because of it. I can't deny that it's a song that does a lot for me».
With a new album, Omnibus Pt.2: Inside Out, many proje, and a song with Thai star Jeff Satur out this month, we spoke with him in an exclusive interview.
