Saudi Arabia's General Sports Authority has awarded a contract to Schiattarella Associati for the modification of King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.

The Italian architectural firm will oversee the refurbishment of a section of the stadium large enough to accommodate almost 50,000 spectators. The project will include the creation of an artificial hill at the base of the stadium, which will be used to link ground- and concourse-level seats.

Further, about 1,000 parking spaces will be installed below the hill, while a green area will separate the parking facilities from the stadium. According to the Schiattarella brothers, their proposal the new constructions will not only integrate into the existing architecture but enhance the value of the stadium itself.
