Italy is full of hidden gems, that only tourists who go off the beaten track manage to admire.

The Church of Santa Maria della Concezione of the Capuchins, in Rome, is among the most fascinating ones. Located in the famous Via Veneto, it was built near Palazzo Barberini by Pope Urban in honour of his brother Antonio Barberini, a Friar.

While the Church has an undeniable historical value, it is underneath it that the visitor finds the most interesting relics. A crypt containing the remains of 4,000 friars buried between 1500 and 1870, when the Capuchin friars decorated the walls of the crypts with the deceased's bones as a way of reminding themselves that death could come at any time.
