The beauty of the Vucciria Market in Palermo

One of the most famous modern art masterpieces from Italy is the "Vuccirìa di Palermo", which was painted by Renato Guttuso in 1974. The Vuccirìa is the most popular historic market of Palermo and maintains most of its original features. A visit there fully immerses you in the spirit of the city and is a not-to-miss experience, far from the usual tourist attractions.

The term Vuccirìa derives from the French word boucherie, or butcher shop, but in Sicilian vernacular its meaning encompasses noise, confusion, chaos, reflecting the atmosphere that dwells along the streets of the market. The stands selling fruits, vegetables, spices and, most of all, fresh fish, are a temptation not to be resisted.
