Seo In Guk vision of Love

Seo In Guk vision of Love

A song about love, with a honey-dripping voice and visuals that keep your eyes stuck on the screen. This happened to almost everyone I knew when they first clicked on YouTube to watch Seo In Guk's new single, My Love.

Born in 1987 in Ulsan, Seo In Guk is what you can call a talent. He launched his singing career after winning the talent reality show Superstar K in 2009 and made his acting breakthrough a few years later, appearing in the hit series K-drama Reply 1997. By the time he started his acting career, it was 2012, and since then, he has never stopped. Now, you can enjoy his acting skills thanks to an on-screen KBS2 K-drama called Café Minamdang in which he plays a profiler-turned-shaman.

But music has always played a huge part in Seo In Guk's life. It's where everything started. So in June, he released a new album Love&Love fronted by the title track My Love, a laidback R&B song featuring rapper Ravi.

Panorama spoke with him in an exclusive interview for the Italian public.

Congratulations on your new music. Can you please introduce your single, My Love?

MY LOVE’ is an R&B song that reminds you of a deep coffee smell as you listen to it. It goes along with the rainy mood too. It is a love song, but it’s also a song that comforts the listeners. I want to dedicate this song to people having a tough time.

The song feature VIXX member RAVI. How is the collab born?

I used to know RAVI, and I contacted him because I thought it’d be great to add a rap to this song. I’m very thankful to RAVI for help without hesitation. He actually did a rap in a different style than he usually does, so the song became more highly completed, and it’s really satisfying. I’ve been trying Melodic Hip Hop, so I hope to show it to the fans if I get a chance.

My Love is the title track for your single album, Love&Love that also includes a B-side track: BE MY MELODY. Can you tell us more about it?

It’s an Old Pop genre, and I put much attention into arranging the guitar sound. I had much affection for it, and I was going to choose ‘BE MY MELODY’ as the title track.

There is the red string of love connecting your new music project. What is love for you?

Love is everything. It includes everything. Love is a point where my satisfaction starts so I think it takes really big part of my life.

Despite the release of a few singles, this is your first music project in ten years, after the mini-album Perfect Fit. Is making music still the same for you, or something has changed?

I have participated in many album processes until now, but this time has a quite different meaning since I was in charge of the process from the start to the end. That’s why I have much affection for this album. I’m really satisfied with it (laughs)

You emerged as a musician in this 2009 Superstar K where you were crowned as the winner. But you are also a really talented actor. What’s the difference between working on music projects and dramas?

It’s similar but different. Music is a one-to-one story between the listener and the singer, while drama is more like a third-person view where actors show their conversations. So I think these are the different points.

You are ready to hold a fan meeting, the first one after such a difficult time. How do you feel?

I’m very excited and nervous. I want to meet my fans as soon as possible and make good memories.

If you could describe yourself right now, what would you say?

Hello, I’m singer Seo In Guk and actor Seo In Guk. This is Seo In Guk, who will continue to show good music and acting.
