World's best pizza is made in Melbourne

Johnny Di Francesco won the World Pizza Championships with his delicious margherita

Johnny Di Francesco, the owner of 400 Gradi in Melbourne's Little Italy (Lygon Street), Australia, has just been recognized as the best pizzaiolo for Margherita Pizza during the World Pizza Championships in Parma, Italy.

Nearly 600 chefs coming from 35 different countries joined the competition, and only six were from Australia. According to Mr. Di Francesco, although "a lot of people think it is easy to produce a margherita, it is one of the hardest to produce in the world". Indeed, "the balance of the ingredients and the quality are so important" with a margherita. Other pizzas can easily mask the flavour with toppings, but in classis pizzas no hiding is allowed.
