Non ha tradito le attese la lunga notte dei Billboard Music Awards 2016, ricca di premi e di emozionanti performance live. Quest’edizione è stata nel segno di The Weeknd, vincitore di sei statuette, e di Adele, che si è aggiudicata i premi di Top Artist, Top Female Artist e Top Album.
Tra le perfomance più applaudite segnaliamo Britney Spears, che ha proposto un medley dei suoi più grandi successi, Rihanna, che ha interpretato con grande passione Love on the brain, Kesha in un’insolita cover di It ain’t me babe di Bob Dylan e Celine Dion con una monumentale prova vocale in The show must go on dei Queen, salutata da una standing ovation.
Ha diviso in due il pubblico l’omaggio a Prince da parte di Madonna e di Stevie Wonder, introdotta da Questlove: in molti non hanno gradito la performance vocale di Miss Ciccone in Nothing compares 2 U, mentre è andata leggermente meglio in Purple rain, grazie anche a un corista d’eccezione come Wonder.
