Why Venice is magic in winter

When it is not overwhelmed by tourists, Venice shows its romantic, magical, and mysterious spirit

According to the Russian poet Joseph Brodsky, the perfect season in which to fall in love with Venice is winter. As reported by the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post, winter is not only the season in which people can be greeted by "the smell of freezing seaweed", which according to him brings happiness, but also the one in which you can wake up "to the chiming of its innumerable bells. [...] You fling the window open and the room is instantly flooded with this outer, peal-laden haze, which is part damp oxygen, part coffee and prayers".

It is only when not overwhelmed by tourists that Venice will reveal its real spirit, which is romantic, magical, and mysterious. If we add that in winter Venice is usually also more affordable, we have certainly enough reason to plan a trip to "La Serenissima" before spring comes.
