Hero, a contemporary version of Michelangelo's David

The statue is Antonio Pio Saracino's creation, a young Italian artist based in New York

The Michelangelo's David is one of the most beautiful and famous piece of art that the Italian Renaissance genious has made.

Today, a contemporary version of the David has been shaped by Antonio Pio Saracino, a young Italian artist based in New York.

Tha statue, that Saracino has called Hero, was created in 2013, when the Italian artist was asked to create something new to symbolize the friendship between Italy and the US.

Saracino's Hero is as tall as Michelangelo's David (5.15 meters), and they are both very heavy as they are made on Carrara's marble. A few weeks ago, Hero was moved from New York to Florence to spend some time in the same Museum that is hosting the original David. In September, Saracino's creation is expected to join Expo 2015 in Milan.
