Quagga: The Italian company creating jackets out of plastic bottles

An innovative and sustainable way to reduce the quantity of unused waste

Quagga is the innovative Italian company that has recently hit the French crowdfunding Ulule. Quagga is the first Italian company committed in making clothing exclusively using recycled fibres without any harmful substance.

On Ulule - platform having 68% success rate - Quagga launched its new project Q-bottles. The initiative sees plastic bottles being transformed into hoodies, T-shirts and jackets. Thanks to modern technology, it is possible to get cutting-edge fabrics out of plastic, such as jersey in light polyester, which is breathable and easy to dye with eco-friendly colourants.

In so doing, Quagga has elaborated an innovative and sustainable way to reduce the quantity of unused waste left in landfills every year. According to the recent data of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), 8 million tonnes of plastic waste is found in oceans, creating a 8-billion-dollar damage to marine ecosystems. On this subject, Stefano Bonaventura (Quagga founder) stressed on the Italian daily Corriere della Sera"we want to prove that it is possible to get the same comfort and characteristics of cotton by using recycled fibres drawn from plastics present in the territory. This use implies great advantages in terms of eco-compatibility: at the end of their life, the same clothing can be recycled."

Ulule gave the pre-view of 2 models from the 2017/2018 fall-winter collection: IOPI (10% discount) and THERMO (30% discount), both from men and for women. IOPI for women is extremely flexible, meeting diverse needs: from pregnancy to slim fit. The fabrics is also stain-proof, abrasion-proof and very resistant to light and rubbing. Quagga Q-Bottles initiative was extremely welcomed on Ulule: while the initial objective was to reach 50 pre-sales of Q-Bottles clothing, the crowdfunding was concluded with 146 pre-sales. This data confirms how eco-friendly fashion is possible, it is appreciated and it is 100% Made in Italy.
