Italian taxis now accepting Bitcoin

Passengers can download an app and pay for their rides in advance

One of Italy's largest taxi fleets, Cooperativa RadioTaxi 3570, will accept bitcoin for fares from now onwards. In order to make bitcoin payments, the customers need to download an app managed by the tech company Chainside. Lorenzo Bittarelli, who is the company president and founder of the Italian Union of Radio Cabs, declared that Italian taxi drivers "have always seen innovation as a growth stimulus, ande want to give a strong signal to their competitors."

Cooperativa RadioTaxi 3570 provides taxi services in all large Italian cities and passengers have the option of paying for their rides in advance. Once a payment is made, customers are emailed receipts which they can show to taxi drivers as proof of payment.
