Italy leading the market of food safety certifications

The Ministry for Economic Development is currently working on a certification system siutable for the whole of Europe

Food safety certification is a third-party verification that products, processes or systems in the food supply chain meet accepted food safety standards. It is usually based on the results of tests, inspections and audits and gives confidence to the consumer assuring that products have been thoroughly evaluated against accepted national and international industry standards by a competent third body.

With the aim of developing a certification system suitable for the whole of Europe, favoring the integration of bio, halal and kosher food certifications needs, the Italian Ministry for Economic Development is currently promoting a seminar series to discuss the usefulness of this model for the food industry (a business worth 130 billion Euro in Italy). The next seminar will be held in Parma on May 15th.
